Asphalt Jungle is a 1950 classic noir film. This film follows a recently released from prison,“Doc” who has extensively planned the perfect jewel heist. Unfortunately, his luck quickly dissipates. Doc enlist the help of some fellow criminals and the heist itself goes down without so much as a glitch, well except for Louis being shot during the robbery. The problem with perfect crimes and to Doc’s poor luck is that something always goes wrong, regardless of how much careful planning took place.
Doc discovered his difficulties when he went Alonzo, a lawyer that knew the many layers of corruption and was Doc’s contact for fencing his recently obtained jewels. Low and behold, Alonzo lacks the funds to pay for the jewels and Doc hearing rumors of his possible deceit is rather untrusting. Doc brings along another one of his crew members, Dix who ends up shooting Alonzo’s hired protection, a private detective and manages to get shot himself, the luck of this crime just continues to go downhill at racing speeds.
The tale goes on and one bad event after another creeps into Doc’s existence, death, arrest, you name it, it’s there. I would fill you in on the further details, however I hate to ruin the entire movie if you haven’t seen it. In some ways, it reminds me of a few pieces of Reservoir Dogs, not completely just a scene here and there. You’ll have to rent this movie yourself for the ending. Not that I don’t want to share the ending, it’s just that I am constantly being told that I ruin movies. So this is me not ruining a movie.
Picture compliments of Warchild 13.
